June is Migraine Headache Awareness Month (#MHAM). It’s estimated that migraine affects over 14% of people worldwide, making it the 3rd most common disease behind dental cavities and tension headache. In the United States alone, more than 39 million women, men, and children experience migraine.

The World Health Organization named migraine as one of the 10 most disabling illnesses.

Even more people are affected by non-migraine headaches, of which there are more than 150 types. Almost all of us have experienced one type of headache or another, and many of us live with chronic migraine and other chronic diseases like tension and cluster headache. These conditions can be debilitating and may require total rest to recover, along with treatments such as medication, lifestyle changes, and avoidance of triggers like certain foods, alcohol, smells and bright lights.
