Naturopathic Doctor, Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, Licensed Acupuncturist

Dr. Melinda Nickels

Dr. Melinda Nickels (She/Her/Hers) focuses on treating chronic illness and chronic pain. Her goal is to help you break out of old patterns, whether they be physical, mental or emotional, in order to achieve greater health and well-being. She uses acupuncture, herbs, homeopathy, diet and lifestyle advice to support you, but her most important tool is listening deeply to your story in order to find the patterns in your life and then the keys to you living a more healthy lifestyle.

Natural medicine was not her first career; she came to it after previous work in physics research, internet programming, and house building, all with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. Her focus during those years was on positive and innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges, so that future generations might be able to enjoy the world as much as we have.

During this time, she learned that the best new solution was often an old one; that brilliant and simple solutions to problems we face today can often be found in the work of our predecessors, and that solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems can be found when tradition and modern science are brought together. This realization, combined with a life-long interest in health care, brought her to Naturopathic and Chinese medicine. Her course of study combined the best of traditional medicine and modern knowledge, in the interest of minimized side effects and enhanced quality of life for patients.

Dr. Nickels graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland in 2008 with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (ND) and a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM). She has a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA. She has pursued additional advanced training in herbal medicine from local herbal experts as well as homeopathy from the New England School of Homeopathy. She has pursued in-depth training in many styles of acupuncture including gentle Japanese styles and the Five Element, mind-body based Alchemical Acupuncture. She has been practicing in the Uptown and Downtown Vancouver area for over a decade.

Dr. Nickels spends her free time with friends and family, reading, painting in watercolors, walking in the woods and on the beach, and hanging out with her cat and chihuahua friends.
